It’s Thanksgiving Day and before we know it, Christmas and the New Year will be here. 2018 didn’t go as planned — it was a tough year, personally more than professionally.
The First Half
January through April was a rough ride in the Northland. Winter stuck around until May, which didn’t help morale. On top of that, my wife’s grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and estate and guardianship matters kept us busy through June.
Summer
My parents relocated from Denver, and the summer went to helping them settle in, outdoor work, and sorting through grandfather’s belongings. Not the summer anyone plans for, but you do what needs doing.
Fall
Fall went fast. We started prepping for winter and replaced our fifth wheel for future travel — then my dad’s cancer came back. That took priority over everything else.
Looking Ahead
Winter is slowing things down, which means a chance to breathe and regroup. Maybe pick up a new programming language. Despite everything, moving to the Northland was the right call. Grateful for that, even if 2018 tested the conviction.
Hoping 2019 is smoother for everyone. Have a great holiday season.
Key Takeaways
- Some years are defined by what you manage, not what you accomplish.
- Winter isn’t just a weather pattern — sometimes it’s a chance to reset before the next push.
- Family doesn’t pause for career goals, and it shouldn’t.
